What is a set mundu?
A set mundu, also called mundum neriyathum, is the classic two-piece dress of Kerala: a mundu worn around the waist and a neriyathu draped over the shoulder, usually with a matching blouse. It is the forerunner of the Kerala saree and is still worn for Onam, Vishu, temple visits and traditional weddings.
- Kasavu set mundu: off-white with a gold zari border, the most traditional choice.
- Tissue set mundu: a shimmering tissue weave for festive occasions.
- Puliyilakkara and Mulloth designs: distinctive Kerala border patterns, including temple designs.
- Contrast kara (border) designs: coloured borders such as maroon and green.

Frequently asked questions
